Apple on October 13, 2020, introduced its newest flagship iPhones, the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini, which offer powerful features at an affordable price tag. This is the first iPhone generation to include OLED in every model.
iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 mini
iPhone 12 features a 6.1-inch, Super Retina XDR OLED display with smaller bezels than its predecessors, and is 11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter than the older iPhone 11. The A14 Bionic is a custom Apple Silicon processor that uses the 5-nanometer process. It features a 50% faster CPU and GPU than other manufacturers’ smartphone chips and has over 11.8 billion transistors. There are 64GB, 128GB, and 256GB storage options. The display used in iPhone 12 is Super Retina XDR technology with a 2 million-to-1 contrast ratio with better HDR and true blacks. This display comes in at 460ppi and can display up to 1200 nits of HDR content.
The iPhone 12 features dual cameras, including Apple’s first 7-element lens that delivers low light performance. Apple is adding Night Mode Time-lapse as well. There’s a 12MP wide lens with an f/1.6 aperture and a 12MP ultra-wide lens with an f/2.4 aperture and 120-degree field of view. The front camera features a portrait mode with advanced bokeh and depth control, Portrait Lighting with effects, 4K video recording, 1080p HD video recording, and next-generation Smart HDR. It also features cinematic video stabilization, wide color capture, Live Photos, burst mode, and auto image stabilization.
iPhone 12 Mini is the smallest, thinnest, and lightest 5G smartphone in the world. The iPhone 12 mini delivers all of the same features as the regular iPhone 12. That means users get the same fast A14 bionic chip, Ceramic Shield for better drop protection, and MagSafe charging but with a smaller 5.4-inch display.
Pre-orders for iPhone 12 begin Friday, October 16, with availability beginning Friday, October 23. iPhone 12 mini will be available for pre-order beginning Friday, November 6, and in stores beginning Friday, November 13. The phone comes in black, white, red, green and blue colors. The iPhone 12 starts at $799 and the mini start at $699.
